Royal Visit 1954168 viewsThis film covered the whole of the Queen's 1954 Commonwealth tour in colour. The Malta section is just over 5 mins and includes some great shots of the Mediterranean Fleet escorting Britannia into Malta. The complete film does not seem to be on Youtube in one hit but the Malta shots are HERE - wind forward to 6:40.

Search Youtube for other parts, try Royal Tour 1954 and also The Flight of the White Heron.

HMS Ausonia & Manoel Is. 1959/601331 viewsOther ships are HMS Dainty, parts of HMS Anzio & LST Charles McLeod and a lonely HMS Eastbourne in Sliema Creek. On the island is part of the Leper Hospital, beyond that the Base Supply Office, Fort Manoel, the Diving Centre and Comms Training Centre. To the left of the football pitches is the Canteen (Cinema), in front of which are the tennis courts/roller skating rink of blessed memory.
What a lot of nostalgia!

Trooper R Martin d. 1918297 viewsWhat does Trooper Martin have to do with Malta's part in World War One? Malta, 'Nurse of the Mediterranean' cared for casualties from the Gallipoli and Salonika campaigns. Martin died like thousands of others - but only after surviving one of the world's first open heart surgeries AND being operated upon by one of the first woman surgeons. He has become famous 100 years later.
