Whilst in the RN based at Fort Manoel 58/60 my part time job was cinema operator in the Cinema at Manoel Island where the Projectors were very large and old Carbon Burners which needed a lot of attention whilst in use.

Were you there when Jimmy Edwards did a show?

In the back of my mind I seem to recall the event but I could be wrong - I was at Phoenicia 1958-60 but also used cinema 1952 -54 whilst at Tal Handaq - On Manoel was the MSPCA Dogs Home where I used to work at the weekends and during school holidays1952-54 - it was on the right half way between the Bridge and the Cinema. It later moved to Floriana.

The show was 57 or 58, on Manoel if I remember rightly. Where the MSPCA are now in Floriana is where the quarantine kennels used to be, our dog was in there for a while on arrival on the island.

Does anybody remember what was the name if this Cinema?
|
|

As far as I recall it was just the Manoel Island Cinema, part of the Canteen. The same applied at the Corradino Canteen. Unlike the RAF, the Navy did not give names to its cinemas.

The MSPCA dogs home is still at Floriana or was 5 years back, we took our dog out in 56 and it did quarantine time there.
