Question for today. When was Villa Rosa built?

A wonderful photo. I lived "next door" to the Villa Rosa in the early 60s before the redevelopment began. The villa was then empty and the gardens neglected. A great place for myself, my brother and our friends to play though it was difficult to get into the grounds. I fished virtually the whole shoreline of St George's Bay with an old Maltese bamboo fishing pole (no reel). We swam from the beach and also regularly used what we called the "Army Lido" (my father was in the Navy). I remember the opening of the Villa Rosa beach club with its pool; very posh ! Does anyone remember the "Churchillesque" lion with its cigar and bowler hat ?

I could have written the previous comment. Always a wonderful adventure trolling through the4 empty grounds. I don't remember the Lion though. Had the same fishing rod! Good days.

Might have dreamed of the lion.....but don't think so. I still dream about the place regularly.......remember the Church bells every morning ?

The Villa Rosa was the RASC officers' mess in late 1957. I watched the most spectacular thunderstorm from its windows.
