Not going according to plan - Times of Malta.

What a surprise !!! Something in Malta not going to plan.

That’s not a gate; it’s an open thoroughfare. If it is to remain pedestrianised, it’s a pity the old Kingsgate could not have been re-built as has been done with the restored Brandenburg Gate and the oft-suggested reconstruction of the Euston Arch. So much cost over-run, they might as well have gone the whole hog and produced a beautiful mason-carved gate. The Maltese are very good at working their globigerina limestone (thank you, Mr Barraclough [Geology], 1966). And as for the Times of Malta referring several times to the surrounding depression as a “ditch” – it’s a MOAT!

Concur about the non-gate Ivan, but ditch is a correct term in fortification speak and widely used in Malta and elsewhere. Wiki.
