When I first went to Malta in 1957 I arrived in the middle of a big 'Marylike' campaign ('Be Marylike in your dress' - COVER UP!) How things have changed!!!

Our Lady Mary or Mary Whitehouse? How apt. There was a story (probably apocryphal) about a priest on a Sliema bus who got the driver to stop at Msida police station (very narrow there at the bottom of the hill) and held up the traffic while he fetched a policeman to eject a lady from the bus because she was showing too much shoulder. Shoulder! She shoulder told HIM where to get off !! (No coarse comments please).

Interesting that the Italians & Germans have adopted "topless" but not the French. I wouldnt know about the Russians.

Too cold in Russia for that sort of thing. Hence fur coat and no knickers. (And the French always go too far).

Sorry to correct you admin, but the common expression in German for topless is "oben ohne" translates to "top-without". Sliema Council is unfortunately displaying (oops) its ignorance.

No doubt. But the council clearly expect the Germans to understand topless, whereas the French wouldnt deign to.
