Swordfish_174_GH_ebay_5025.jpg
More dinghy racing, circa 196525 viewsSwordfish from Garrison Club in M'xett. Sail no.174 in centre.

Navy dentist Jerry Gardner (RN Tower Road clinic) sailed 175 (actually a Navy boat from St Angelo) and lavished much attention on her with gleaming mirror finish. He kept her at MGSC and constantly beat the Pongos. In retaliation he was disqualified for not wearing the correct "15" mark on the sail. Sour grapes or what !

Garrison club dinghies in Marsamxett. Postcard,30 viewsPre 1980 when the Carmelite dome came to dominate the skyline. (Probably Swordfishes pre 1968 when the club bought Pegasus dinghies. Club closed in 1978 of course).

Sails are coloured in, they were white. Some cards show them as white but are less clear.

Trooper R Martin d. 191878 viewsWhat does Trooper Martin have to do with Malta's part in World War One? Malta, 'Nurse of the Mediterranean' cared for casualties from the Gallipoli and Salonika campaigns. Martin died like thousands of others - but only after surviving one of the world's first open heart surgeries AND being operated upon by one of the first woman surgeons. He has become famous 100 years later.
