The fort suffered significant damage from enemy action in WW2, when much of the internal structure was badly damaged. The gate has been rebuilt, but the internal buildings including the Governor's House have been lost.

Built on the site of the Auberge d’Allemagne, the cathedral was designed by William Scamp and was built between 1839 and 1844. Queen Adelaide laid the foundation stone on 20 March 1839 and her banner hangs above the choir stalls.

Wreck of the Adjutant, Tigne 1884.486 viewsThe British steamship Adjutant, was bound from Calcutta to London with a general cargo. On the morning of January 4th, 1884, when off Fort Tigne, Malta, she was driven ashore in a gale and became a total wreck. The tug Escort endeavoured to render assistance but without avail. Of the Adjutant´s crew five men were drowned, the captain and all the officers being among the survivors.
