Now, that’s how I remember it, although the truck in front of the Ford Anglia/Popular/Prefect implies it was a little before my time. What year...? Great photo.

Not dated. The Prefect 100E 4 door dates from 1953 but I think it may be a Mk1 Consul (uprights on bumper) in which case 1951. The latest possible date is 1973 when the buses changed colour.

Just as I remember it as well. Behind the big tree there was a big barber shop which had a number of old prints on the wall depicting the long gone battle fleet.
One evening a couple of matelots decided to walk back to their ship after staggering out of one of the bars, sadly the ship was moored in the middle of the creek.

And on the right was the Army & Navy Restaurant which did Steak, Egg & Chips for 2/6d.

The Army & Navy is still there though in a new incarnation. No longer a Greasy Spoon but good value and always busy. Now spills out onto the pavement like its new neighbours.
