HMS Brigand was a tug of the Brigand Class, fitted for firefighting, salvage, rescue and target towing. She was armed with 1 x 3 inch and 1 x 20mm guns. She was delivered to the Admiralty in 1937 and based at Malta. She was sold to Cantieri Navale Santa Maria SpA, at Genoa, on the 23rd of September 1960, where she was scrapped. The three Brigand Class tugs Brigand, Marauder and Freebooter took part in Operation Snow White – the epic tow of Admiralty Floating Dock AFD35 from Bombay to Malta in 1947 – see link below photo. The main job of these tugs in Malta however, was to tow targets and accompany the fleet on cruises etc. One notable incident involving Brigand, was when she went to the assistance of SS Benledi which was on fire. Brigand, along with the salvage ship, Sea Salvor managed to get Benledi back to Malta
