Tal-Ħandaq Nostalgia

Memories of the Royal Naval School, Malta, 1947 - 1978.

Grand Harbour 1966 ©

My Dad informed me at the time that this was HMS Eagle. I will leave that to the Navy Buffs to correct or deny. All I do know is that I took this picture from the upper Barracca Gardens and my note on the back says Summer '66 so I would have been 12/13.

Could be one of three Carriers only Eagle R05, Victorious R38 or Hermes R12 these were the Carriers fitted with the Type 984 Radars - other two Installations were at Collingwood and ASWE - where I was employed on maintenance of the 984

Robin, as you are into radar, what is the designation for what I call the bedstead, then there was the double, one on top of the other, was it 954?
Prefect   [Apr 27, 2010 at 02:20 PM]
No Phill, it was 965. See my google bit on the Sliema Creek photo.

965 and the double bedstead was 965M - 954 was a USSR Radar

That may change when Coppermine finally publish a stable version 1.5, but don't hold your breath.

A neighbour (widower of Mrs Brett-Knowles who taught maths at TH ca 1960) worked on the development of radar throughout the war.
