Bruce writes "For the whole of the roughly 4 years we were in Malta (I left 10th Aug 1960) we had a large, covered, enamelled bucket of fresh water delivered every day. We called it "Mtarfa water" presumably because it came from Mtarfa. Actually while my sister Anne was a baby we got an extra container of water daily. Obviously we had tap water but we only used it for washing and laundry as it had a slightly salty taste - I really didn't like it at all. Interestingly a Maltese friend of mine in England who hadn't been home for many years told me the thing he missed most was the lovely tap water........so there's clearly no accounting for taste
