Tal-Handaq Nostalgia

Memories of the Royal Naval School, Malta, 1947 - 1978.

Flotilla Farewell
The last squadron of warships to be stationed in Malta left on 31st March 1969, long before the Mintoff withdrawal or the final farewell. This is the 7th Minesweeping sqdn steaming for home. The first British ships in Malta were wooden, these were also made of wood.
Only a few support vessels and shore bases remained on station until 1979, although many warships visited for short periods.
