Tal-Handaq Nostalgia

Memories of the Royal Naval School, Malta, 1947 - 1978.

A very helpful member of the Maltese Army showed me round Tigne on a visit - my first since leaving as a child in 1966. I am confused whether this was part of the school or the checkpoint office by the entry barrier to Tigne barracks

It doesn't look like the guardroom which became a snack bar HERE.

In which case it used to be part of the school!

Cannot place the building. Through the gates the school was on the right with the church just before and behind the school. Is this where this picture was taken? The guardroom as I recall has a photo of a large (or so it appeared to me) scorpion on a board on the wall just ouside the door. There was a shop just outside the gates where we used to buy sweets and once or twice sold the owner octopuses we caught. I particularly remember these bars of honeycombe like substance covered with chocolate.

I do 'recall' the soldier confirming it was part of the school - but it was a long time ago when the picture was taken and an eternity from when we lived there.............................

I think this building was used by the NAAFI in the 70s. It was just down the road from the church

Hi, I was at Tigne in mid60s, I think they were classrooms heading towards the play ground.Or actually on the lower part of the Play Ground

Hi Tom, thanks for that. You have prompted my memory a bit and I am sure that this was used as a classroom (temporary or not) as I can recall being taught there at one time . I guess you were in the class above me (I was born in 1957). Happy days. ATB Smile
